MAIN JOB PURPOSE

The Cloud Fin-Ops Manager is responsible for operating the Unilever Public Cloud account administration processes, and the Cloud Fin-Ops reporting and cross charging processes.

The role is part of Technology Services – Enterprise Computing, Cloud operations and reports into the Cloud Operations and Estate lead. The role will act as a subject matter expert and support business platform teams in areas including:

  • Public cloud vendor cost and reservation models
  • Cloud and industry best practice in cost optimization and processes
  • Analytics on cloud spend and cost allocations
  • Define cloud cost performance KPIs and track against agreed KPIs on a regular basis
  • Champion Fin-Ops principles and working practices
  • Ensure that Unilever Cloud spend is clear with accountable ownership
  • Maintain and improve cloud meta data including tagging, CMDB registration processes
  • Help drive a culture of cost accountability through engaging stakeholders with dashboards and scorecards – “gamify” the effective use of cloud cost levers with platform scorecards and improvement targets
  • Benchmark the public cloud costs across Platforms and Services internally and externally
  • Benchmark Unilever’s Public Cloud spend against industry Benchmarks.
  • Engage with Cloud Core operations and capability for technical improvements and cost optimizations

The key aspects of the role are:

  • Master account ownership for Azure and AWS maintaining strong relationships the cloud service providers.
  • Oversight and ownership of platform structure and governance including definition of account structure and tagging strategy
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and healthy competition across Platforms to ensure Cloud Spend is linked to positive business outcomes.
  • Responsible for cost show back (Chargeback) to Platform teams
  • Ownership of billing for Azure, AWS, and other cloud support/service providers, including acting as key point of contact with Procurement for all associated contracts
  • Responsible for a small FinOps team which administers the Cloud Cost Management tooling managing user access, dashboards and reports
  • Administer related meta data, business mapping rules, CMDB data model and cloud alignment
  • Operate cloud financial / FinOps processes including Tag compliance/control processes, cloud budget setting and periodic reviews with business platform teams – Define and run process across FinOps Inform, Optimise and Operate phases.

JOB SUMMARY

Cloud platform governance

  • Master account ownership for Azure and AWS including definition of account structure and tagging strategy
  • Responsible for the accurate chargeback / show back of costs of services on the cloud technology platforms to Business Platform teams
  • Acting as key point of contact for Unilever’s TBM/Apptio team for data alignment in Apptio Cost Transparency and cloud cost tools.
  • Delivery of management reports using native reporting features within the cloud technology platforms, such as Power BI in Azure, Azure cost management console and AWS Cost Explorer
  • Manages total cost of ownership (TCO) for cloud technology platforms
  • Responsible for document management, ensuring operational and best practice documentation is maintained and updated with appropriate metadata

FinOps

  • Documents Unilever’s detailed cloud FinOps processes
  • Conducts FinOps governance and performance reviews with business platform teams covering spend v budget, cost optimisations, continuous improvements
  • Agrees cloud budgets, tolerance and escalation levels, implements cost alerts, manage spend anomalies
  • Define and provides cost optimisation dashboards and scorecards using third party and native cost management tools such as Apptio Cloud Cost Module, Cloudability or similar, AWS cost explorer, Trusted advisor, Azure Cost Management
  • Operate show back/charge back for cloud costs and working closely with finance manage monthly journals, setting up cost centres, tracking and resolving issues with cross charges
  • Lead cloud cost savings initiatives and analysis

Vendor and Team management

  • Works with Procurement and finance teams to manage cloud vendor commercial relationships
  • Owns billing for Azure, AWS, and other cloud support partners
  • Leads weekly and monthly governance meetings with business platform teams and vendor support partners
  • Line management duties per Unilever’s guidelines
  • Leading and managing a team to deliver targets, ensuring appropriate training is received, conducting performance reviews and driving recruitment against known demands
  • Ensure appropriate governance/controls in place for the team in relation to risk & issue management, team reviews, demand and work assignment

ALL ABOUT YOU:

Essential

  • Experience of working in a global IT organisation and managing and delivering service through strategic partners
  • Experience and cultural awareness to work with and manage a globally distributed team
  • Ability to form strong relationships within Unilever and with key individuals in partner organisations to deliver against objectives
  • 5 Years plus experience of service management and vendor management and detailed IT knowledge including IT operations, service level management, IT finances – managing “run” budgets, capacity management and quality management
  • 3 years Cloud / Azure / AWS exposure & working understanding of what these are used for and the issues associated with implementation
  • IT finance experience – demonstrate budget management, budget review and control experience
  • Leading and managing a team

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent in related subject
  • ITIL Service management
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification
  • Azure Foundations Certification
  • Project/Programme (e.g. Prince2, PMI, Scrum Master)
